Newark est une ville américaine, ville la plus peuplée de l'État du New Jersey. Située dans le comté d'Essex, elle fait partie de la banlieue de New York. Elle accueille le second plus important aéroport de l'agglomération new-yorkaise avec l'aéroport international Liberty de Newark, situé à 15 km de Manhattan. Lors du recensement des États-Unis de 2010, elle compte 277 140 habitants.
Newark est fondée en 1666 par des Puritains du Connecticut menés par Robert Treat venant de la colonie de New Haven. La ville est d'abord dirigée par une assemblée théocratique de fidèles jusqu'à l'arrivée de nouveaux arrivants. Le 31 octobre 1693, elle est réorganisée en township du New Jersey fondé sur le terrain de Newark qui est d'abord acheté le 11 juillet 1667.
