Kötschach-Mauthen è un comune austriaco di 2 662 abitanti nel distretto di Hermagor, in Carinzia; ha lo status di comune mercato . Capoluogo comunale è Kötschach.
Kötschach-Mauthen si trova 34 km a ovest del capoluogo distrettuale Hermagor-Pressegger See, tra l'alta valle della Gail e la valle del Lesach . Il comune è formato dall'unione di due paesi, Kötschach e Mauthen, poco distanti fra loro e uniti dal ponte sul fiume Gail. Mauthen è il primo centro abitato che si incontra provenendo dalla strada del passo di Monte Croce Carnico dall'Italia, e dalla sella di Gailberg .
