Il Wattenbach ha origine nelle Prealpi Tuxer. Il Mölsbach e il Lizumbach si uniscono nel fondo valle presso il Lager Walchen a un'altezza di 1405 m s.l.m. e formano il Wattenbach. Il Lizumbach, lungo 8,1 km, nasce sotto il Lizumer Reckner a un'altezza di 2419 m s.l.m., mentre il Mölsbach è il deflusso del Mölssee ed è lungo 5,8 km. Il Wattenbach scorre da sud a nord quasi in linea retta attraverso il Wattental. Dopo 11,6 km, sfocia nel comune di Wattens nell'Inn. Con il Lizumbach come affluente più lungo, raggiunge una lunghezza totale di 19,7 km e un dislivello di 1874 m.
