Nel cuore della Borinage si trova uno dei più bei esempi di archeologia industriale in Belgio: Le Grand-Hornu. Questo sito fu fondato tra il 1816 e il 1835 dall'industriale francese Henri de Gorge. Egli aveva acquistato nel 1810 una concessione per estrarre carbone a Hornu.
Il complesso neoclassico è composto da circa 400 abitazioni, laboratori e edifici amministrativi. Soprattutto i laboratori che si trovano attorno a un grande cortile centrale formano un insieme impressionante.
In una parte degli edifici si trova dal 2002 il MAC's: il Musée des Arts Contemporains.
