Il nome appare già nel 1172 come Heinrici Capella e nel 1477 come Heynrichs Cappellen. Il luogo appartiene alla cosiddetta regione Platdietse e faceva parte dell'area originaria del ducato di Limburgo.
Presso Hendrikkapelle nasce il Gulp.
Nel museo della Via, un museo all'aperto con una collezione di sei tratte stradali, si trovano strade di diverse epoche, da una via militare dell'epoca romana a una strada del periodo in cui regnava Alberto I.
Sulla cimitero militare americano Henri-Chapelle, di 23 ettari, sono sepolti quasi ottomila militari, la maggior parte caduti nella Battaglia delle Ardenne.
