La statua di The Brooding Soldier (il soldato meditativo) o, come viene comunemente chiamato, Il Canadese, si trova in un luogo che durante la guerra era chiamato Vancouver Corner. Qui, l'esercito canadese combatté, tra l'altro, per riconquistare il terreno dopo il primo attacco con gas del 22 aprile 1915. La statua fu inaugurata nel 1922 ed è di Frederick Chapman Clemeshaw. Il soldato appoggia le mani sulla calciatura del fucile, che è posizionato con la canna verso il basso: “arms reversed”. È una postura che suscita rispetto e cordoglio per i caduti, utilizzata almeno dal XVI secolo.
