La estatua de The Brooding Soldier (el soldado pensativo) o, como se le conoce popularmente, Den Canadien, se encuentra en un lugar que durante la guerra se llamó Vancouver Corner. Aquí, el ejército canadiense luchó, entre otras cosas, por recuperar terreno después del primer ataque con gas el 22 de abril de 1915. La estatua fue inaugurada en 1922 y es de Frederick Chapman Clemeshaw. El soldado apoya sus manos en la culata del rifle, que está con la boca hacia abajo: “arms reversed”. Desde al menos el siglo XVI, esta postura debe evocar respeto y luto por los caídos.
