Schoten un villaggio? Hai mai guardato al centro costruito, al traffico, al numero di banche e supermercati? Hai mai riflettuto sulla crescita della popolazione? Tra il 1800 e il 1900, il numero degli abitanti cresce da 1.000 a circa 4.000. Poco dopo la Seconda Guerra Mondiale eravamo già circa 17.000 e oggi siamo più di 34.000. Più di 1 persona su 5 ha meno di 20 anni e più di 1 su 5 ha più di 65 anni. Schoten ha più abitanti di "vere città" come Geraardsbergen, Blankenberge, Knokke, Lommel, Tongeren,... Eppure la maggior parte degli abitanti di Schoten parla ancora del "Villaggio". Lì si sentono a casa. Non è forse un caso che "il Villaggio" sia anche il nome del centro di servizi dove puoi ricaricarti o rilassarti (wc adattato) al termine di questa passeggiata.
