Il sottosuolo di Caino è costituito da calcare. Questo calcare ha la caratteristica di dissolversi a volte in acqua (il contrario di ciò che accade nel tuo caffè). A causa delle soluzioni di quel calcare nel sottosuolo si verificano regolarmente avvallamenti. Questi avvallamenti sono conosciuti come doline. Così, è emerso un esempio spettacolare di una dolina il 17 maggio 1979. Improvvisamente c'era un buco di 10 m di diametro e 10 m di profondità.
