Nederbrakel è un villaggio nella provincia belga di Fiandre Orientali ed è una frazione di Brakel. Il luogo conta circa 6500 abitanti ed è il centro più grande del comune. Si trova nelle Ardenne Fiamminghe. Nel 1280, l'abate del Tenimento di Inde donò un certo numero di proprietà del Tenimento, tra cui Nederbrakel, a Gwijde di Dampierre, il 21° Conte delle Fiandre. Gwijde concesse il territorio nel 1289 in feudo a suo figlio Gwijde di Namur. Il suo pronipote Gwijde di Namur, Jan III di Namur, conte di Namur, vendette circa nel 1405 la signoria di Nederbrakel a Marie d'Aumont, moglie di Arnoul[d], barone di Schorisse. Sua figlia Jeanne van Gaver, signora di Brakel, sposò Simon van Lalaing e così la signoria rimase nelle mani di quella famiglia per sei generazioni.
