Il bacino di attesa serve principalmente a raccogliere l'enorme quantità d'acqua (e anche un po' di melma) dai campi, in modo che i ruscelli più a valle e le aree adiacenti non straripino. È presente un controllo di livello. Se l'acqua a valle supera un certo livello, l'acqua viene temporaneamente trattenuta nel bacino di attesa (con una sorta di diga).
