Il castello di Gruuthuse è già menzionato nel Medioevo e ha un passato travagliato. Il castello porta il nome del suo abitante più famoso. Nel XV secolo, questo dominio era la residenza estiva di Lodewijk van Gruuthuse, consigliere e diplomatico dei duchi di Borgogna. Il portone d'ingresso restaurato è un residuo di questa fortezza ed è ben visibile da Stationsstraat. Dal XVII secolo, Gruuthuse è indissolubilmente legato alla famiglia d'Ursel. L'attuale edificio in stile neovaldese risale al 1890 ed è un progetto dell'architetto René Buyck, che ha anche disegnato i piani del municipio di Oostkamp. Fu il conte Charles d'Ursel a far costruire l'attuale castello e a far riprogettare il parco, secondo i piani del paesaggista Duchesne. Il parco del castello è accessibile solo per gruppi! La prenotazione è obbligatoria.
