Le Bois du Cazier è stato consacrato nel 1822 e si è sviluppato per tutto il XIX secolo.
La qualità del carbone estratto era notevole.
L'8 agosto 1956 scoppiò un'immensa incendio nel fondo della miniera, che costò la vita a 262 minatori di dodici diverse nazionalità.
Lo stabilimento fu chiuso nel 1967 e classificato nel 1990.
Oggi può vantare un museo industriale con macchine vere (una pressa per lamiere, dinamo, un tram elettrico del 1904 …), attrezzi, lo spazio 8 août 1956, che mantiene viva la memoria del disastro del 1956, e un museo del vetro.
Le Bois du Cazier ha ancora due belle torri di estrazione ristrutturate in un contesto verde (26 ha), circondate da tre terrazzamenti.
