Gontrode è un villaggio nella provincia belga di Fiandre Orientali ed è una frazione di Melle. Conta quasi 1000 abitanti. La prima menzione risale al 980, come Rothen. Questo era derivato dal germanico "rothe", bosco disboscato. Nel 1189 si trova Guntroden. L'abbazia di San Bavone di Gand possedeva il diritto di patronato sulla chiesa. L'abbazia fondò tra il IX e l'XI secolo anche il "Hof van Roden" come centro di disboscamento. Amministrativamente, l'area faceva parte della Terra di Rode.
