Massenhoven è stata menzionata per la prima volta nel XII secolo. Fino al 1644 il villaggio era posseduto dal duca di Brabante, nel 1644 concesso come signoria a Adriaan Brouwers, in seguito alle famiglie di Zinnick, Cannaert e de Saint-Vaast. Circa nel 1585 Massenhoven fu distrutta e nel 1702-1703 il villaggio subì danni, poiché si trovava in prima linea contro la Francia durante la Guerra di Successione Spagnola. Anche il 12 maggio 1940 si verificarono distruzioni.
