Il Burreken è un'area naturale protetta di 220 ettari, di cui attualmente 33 ha sono gestiti da Natuurpunt come riserva. In essa sgorgano numerosi ruscelli dalle altrettanto numerose sorgenti, che in passato hanno scavato profondamente nel paesaggio. La vegetazione in quest'area boschiva fortemente ondulata è quella tipica delle foreste di sorgente: ontano nero, frassino comune e nocciolo. Soprattutto in primavera, il Burreken è spettacolato per una visita. Allora, tra l'altro, il bianco dell'anemone dei boschi e il blu dell'ibisco selvatico creano un tappeto colorato. L'area è liberamente accessibile su strade esistenti e sentieri segnati.
