Attorno al Palazzo Stoclet ci sono stati già molti litigi.
Il edificio è del designer Josef Hoffmann ed è la sua opera maestra. Il Palazzo Stoclet è di proprietà privata e tiene ostinatamente le porte chiuse. Come il Palazzo Stoclet non ce n'è un secondo in tutta Bruxelles. Adolphe Stoclet viveva all'inizio del secolo scorso a Vienna come direttore della Société Générale de Belgique. Lì Josef Hoffmann si fece strada come architetto. Per l'alta borghesia e i ricchi industriali progettò ville moderne e con la Wiener Werkstätte ideò anche interni raffinati fino nei minimi dettagli. Quando Stoclet dovette tornare in Belgio inaspettatamente, portò con sé l'architetto e i suoi piani. Perciò il Palazzo Stoclet dal 1911 brilla come unico edificio della Secessione Viennese tra l'arte nuova di Bruxelles. Nel 2009 è stato giustamente dichiarato Patrimonio dell'umanità dell'UNESCO.
