La chiesa di San Pietro in catene deve il suo nome alle catene di Pietro. La chiesa è centrale nel turistico Lommel, che nel 1990 ha celebrato il suo millenario. L'estesa Lommel conta nove parrocchie.
La chiesa di San Pietro in catene possiede splendide vetrate di Gust Ladon (Gent, 1863-1942). Di questo è uscito il libro (con illustrazioni) "Nato di luce", un'opera fondamentale per la pittura su vetro del XIX secolo. Nel 1987 è stato avviato un programma di restauro per questa rara collezione di vetrate complete.
Nel 2000 è stato installato un carillon nel campanile tardo gotico, risalente al XV secolo. La torre è alta 57 metri. La navata di questa chiesa decanale (architetto Martens) è un eccellente esempio di arte neogotica dei primi anni del XX secolo. Sia la torre tardo gotica (nel 1935) che la navata (nel 1996) sono state riconosciute come monumenti protetti.
L'interno presenta anche una serie di bellissime statue di santi e un organo monumentale.
