La basilica attuale ha ricevuto il suo titolo nel 1950 ed è stata costruita in stile gotico tra il XIII e il XV secolo. Nel XIX secolo è stata completamente restaurata. Poiché contiene l'immagine di Nostra Signora di Walcourt (intorno all'anno mille), è un importante luogo di venerazione mariana. All'interno della chiesa troviamo un bellissimo cornicione in stile tardo gotico (1531). Si dice che fosse un dono di Carlo V. Nel coro si trovano anche quaranta belle sedie in quercia (primo quarto del XVI secolo).
