Il forte è una parte della difesa Brialmont e fu completato nel 1864. È uno dei forti meglio conservati e presenta alte mura notevolmente elevate. Oltre al valore militare-storico, oggi il forte è importante sia per il tempo libero che per la natura. Il grande fossato è un punto di attrazione per specie acquatiche come i pipistrelli d'acqua. All'ingresso del forte vive una popolazione molto grande di rospo comune, tritone alpino e salamandra acquatica piccola. Il forte è gradualmente diventato boschivo ed è diventato così attraente per gli abitanti tipici del bosco come il sigillo di Salomone e la farfalla della quercia. In questo luogo vive un uccello predatore: il gufo di bosco. Nei campi aperti intorno al forte, il pipistrello nano comune si dedica alla caccia di insetti.
