Siamo ora di fronte ai resti dell'infermeria. Qui i monaci malati potevano soggiornare per ricevere cure.
La regola di Benedetto stabiliva che i monaci non potessero mai lasciare l'abbazia. Tutto ciò di cui avevano bisogno doveva quindi essere presente: un'infermeria, ma anche: un birrificio, un mulino, orti, un frutteto e un panificio.
I monaci vivevano secondo la regola di Benedetto e dovevano pronunciare tre voti: quello di povertà, castità e obbedienza all'abate.
Il voto di povertà non significava che il monaco vivesse in povertà, ma che non avesse possedimenti personali. Tutto apparteneva all'abbazia.
I monaci vivevano secondo un rigoroso orario che prevedeva in totale 8 ore di lavoro, 8 ore di preghiera e 8 ore di riposo.
