Questa è una strada che in realtà dovrebbe chiamarsi 'Damanstraat'. La famiglia di lavoratori, attiva nella resistenza. Nel febbraio del 1944, la Gestapo fece irruzione nella loro abitazione in Pleinstraat. Il padre fu deportato a Buchenwald attraverso Breendonk. La figlia Hortense e sua madre furono portate a Ravensbruck. Tutti sopravvissero al campo di concentramento. Hortense si sposò nel 1946 con il soldato britannico Syd Clews, che aveva aiutato a fuggire in Inghilterra come resistente durante la guerra. Nella sua nuova residenza Newcastle-under-Lyme, la strada Clews Walk fu dedicata a lei. Mark Bles dedicò un libro alla sua vita nella resistenza intitolato: Child at War, tradotto e pubblicato in olandese dalla casa editrice Standaard.
