La passeggiata si snoda su e attorno al Kruisberg, una parte della catena montuosa di Kempen. Questa lunga duna di sabbia si estende da Retie a Grobbendonk ed è stata formata da depositi marini antichi. Questo è ad esempio visibile in fossili di conchiglie che possono essere trovati qua e là. La duna forma una cosiddetta cuesta con un versante ripido a sud verso la Kleine Nete e una dolce pendenza verso la valle dell'Aa. La parte a nord della linea ferroviaria per Turnhout è stata sviluppata turisticamente (fai attenzione ai mountainbiker!). Sui Bosbergen a sud della linea ferroviaria la natura viene prima di tutto e si sta procedendo al recupero della brughiera.
