L'area boschiva si trova nel territorio della città di Zottegem ed era originariamente di proprietà del priorato certosino di Sint-Martens-Bos. L'area boschiva di 12 ettari è di proprietà della città di Zottegem dal 1978 ed è gestita dalla città di Zottegem e dall'agenzia governativa fiamminga Agenzia per la Natura e il Bosco. La foresta è riconosciuta come area europea Natura 2000 ed è parte della Rete Ecologica Fiamminga. Il Boschetto del Monastero si collega alle sottoaree "Jansveld" e "Vossenhol" della riserva Natuurpunt Middenloop Zwalm e al bosco di Vijfstraten.
