Madonna Caduti a Poupehan.
Il villaggio di Poupehan è meglio conosciuto nella politica belga perché Fons Verplaetse (ex governatore della Banca nazionale del Belgio) vi aveva una residenza di campagna . Secondo il giornalista Hugo De Ridder, un piccolo comitato ha negoziato tra il 1982 e il 1987.
La "banda" di Poupehan era allora composta dal primo ministro Wilfried Martens, dal leader sindacale dell'ACV Jef Houthuys, dall'allora presidente del BAC Hubert Detremmerie e da Fons Verplaetse. Tra il 1982 e il 1987, i quattro pianificarono segretamente la ripresa dell'economia belga dalla recessione dei primi anni '80, inclusa (sotto la pressione del FMI) una svalutazione del franco belga il 22 febbraio 1982. Le deliberazioni di Poupehans per rovesciare il governo di Martens VI. hanno contribuito.
