La diga di Bütgenbach fu costruita nel 1932. La funzione principale della diga è quella di controllare il fiume principale, la Warche. Questo è infatti noto per essere uno dei corsi d'acqua più imprevedibili del Belgio. Il lago artificiale si trova tra i villaggi di Bütgenbach e Berg. Ai piedi dell'impianto si trova una centrale idroelettrica.
Fin dagli anni cinquanta del secolo scorso, presso il sito dell'attuale centro sportivo e ricreativo Worriken si è stabilito un piccolo campeggio. Il lago situato in una posizione idilliaca, con il suo bellissimo sentiero lungo 11 km, è estremamente popolare tra i turisti e la popolazione locale. Non solo per le numerose opportunità di nuoto e sport acquatici, ma soprattutto perché la natura qui è così incontaminata.
