Per i pipistrelli come il pipistrello alato e i pipistrelli nani, le strade cave sono l'ideale via di collegamento tra i loro habitat e le aree di caccia. Trovano riparo durante il tempo ventoso e possono cacciare bene sugli innumerevoli insetti che vi si trovano.
La strada cava non è solo molto preziosa per la flora e la fauna, ma è anche, grazie all'erosione, una finestra geologica sul sottosuolo. Il nostro terreno è infatti composto da diversi strati o depositi. Le sabbie di Neerrepen sono uno di questi strati. Nelle tane di coniglio e tasso questo è visibile dalla sabbia grigio chiaro. La sabbia gialla fine appartiene allo strato geologico delle Sabbi di Grimmertingen. Questo strato è stato depositato qui tra i 37 e i 33 milioni di anni fa dal mare. Contiene molti fossili tipici di un ambiente tropicale.
