Il modestamente apparente Mark ha una lunghezza totale di 76 chilometri. Quando il ruscello sfocia nel Volkerak nei Paesi Bassi, è già un vero e proprio fiume largo. La valle del Mark è molto apprezzata dagli amanti degli uccelli. Gli esperti dicono che qui abitano sia uccelli di prato che di bosco. Con un po' di fortuna (e nella giusta stagione) si possono avvistare qui, tra l'altro, beccacce, pendolini, poiane, falchi di alberi e avocette. Anche gli appassionati di piante possono soddisfare le loro curiosità. Il fiore di dotter, il giaggiolo giallo, il fiore di cuculo e l'anemone dei boschi sono solo alcune delle specie presenti qui.
