La pittoresca chiesa di San Giovanni in Eremo risale al 1682 ed è dedicata a San Giovanni Battista. Qui esisteva già una chiesa nel 984, ma fu distrutta durante l'alluvione di Santa Elisabetta del 1377. Il percorso esterno in sette stazioni illustra la vita di Giovanni Battista. Venivano offerte preghiere contro malattie come le convulsioni, i 'seskens' e la malattia cadente. Di fronte alla chiesa ci sono 'Pinte ende Sproete', due figlie del gallo Cantecleer dalla storia di Reynaert. Una stampa di Reynaert è allegata alla colonna. Inizialmente questa città si chiamava Sint-Jansdorp, in seguito fu aggiunto il termine 'in eremo', latino per 'nel deserto'.
