La carriera dell'Alouette si trova a Calestienne, a 1,5 km a sud di Hotton. La posizione consiste in realtà in due cave abbandonate adiacenti, una in arenaria del Couvinien e l'altra in calcare del Givétien. La zona di contatto di questi due strati geologici, combinata con una notevole diversità di rocce, spiega la presenza di una vegetazione e flora di grande importanza, inclusa un'abbondante presenza di orchidee. La fauna locale è stata solo parzialmente inventariata, ma i risultati preliminari suggeriscono una diversità particolarmente elevata, in particolare per quanto riguarda le farfalle diurne, rappresentate da almeno 32 specie. Il sito è stato designato come riserva naturale statale nel 2012 su una superficie di circa 6 ettari.
