Sterken Dries, la statua in onore dei pescatori , è un monumento popolare per i pescatori. Questo memoriale può essere visto sulla diga di Blankenberge vicino al faro all'ingresso del porto.
La statua originale è stata realizzata nel 1854 dallo scultore Guillaume Charlier di Ixelles.
Sterken Dries era il soprannome del famoso pescatore di Blankenberge Jurewyt Andries , vissuto dal 1818 al 1896. Dries aveva paura di una sola persona. Da sua moglie "Blondina" Era popolarmente chiamata "Blondje". Da bambino andava legato alla cesta sulla schiena del padre a vendere il pesce a Wenduine e De Haan. Papà stava camminando lungo la spiaggia. Quando è arrivato a De Haan , ha scoperto di aver perso suo figlio lungo la strada.
Andries ha trovato la sua casa da solo ! Ecco perché è stato chiamato un ragazzo forte. Da qui il nome "Sterken Dries.
Anche una delle scialuppe di salvataggio del servizio di soccorso volontario di Blankenberge porta lo stesso nome .
