Nel 1999 il Vissersplein è diventato un anfiteatro con frangiflutti e una fontana d'acqua. La gente voleva più fontane in città e c'erano abbastanza frangiflutti sul lungomare, perché non in città? Il complesso può essere utilizzato per eventi e sembra che il luogo sia popolare tra i residenti di Ostenda.
Ma molti turisti adorano anche la fontana. Mentre i genitori si godono uno spuntino e un drink nelle numerose terrazze vicine , i bambini si avventurano nell'acqua della fontana.
