In occasione di Bruges, capitale europea della cultura, nel 2002 è stata costruita una replica di una gru portuale medievale del XIII secolo dagli studenti del dipartimento del legname del Vrij Technische Instituut Bruges. È un modello in scala ridotta . La replica è stata collocata sulla Jan van Eyckplein , tra la statua di van Eyck e lo Spiegelrei.
Dopo un restauro nel 2009, alla gru è stato assegnato un nuovo posto sulla Sasplein. Nel 2016 la gru è stata nuovamente restaurata, questa volta con materiali durevoli.
