Anlässlich der europäischen Kulturhauptstadt Brügge wurde 2002 von den Studenten der Holzabteilung des Vrij Technischen Instituts Brügge ein Nachbau eines mittelalterlichen Hafenkrans aus dem 13. Jahrhundert gebaut. Es handelt sich um ein verkleinertes Modell. Die Nachbildung wurde auf dem Jan van Eyckplein zwischen der Statue von van Eyck und der Spiegelrei aufgestellt.
Nach einer Restaurierung im Jahr 2009 erhielt der Kran einen neuen Platz auf dem Sasplein. 2016 wurde der Kran erneut restauriert, diesmal mit langlebigen Materialien.
