Il primo mercato di Mechelen è stato organizzato su questa piazza triangolare.
In origine era un mercato generale, ma in seguito si commerciava principalmente grano . A quel tempo la piazza si chiamava anche Graanmarkt .
Il Korenmarkt è considerato il sito del primo insediamento di Mechelen e il punto di partenza della città.
Il Korenmarkt è stato completamente rinnovato nel 2011 ed è un posto molto carino. La piazza è stata addirittura nominata per il "Public Space Award" nel 2013.
Con il bel tempo potrete rilassarvi su una delle numerose terrazze . Oppure puoi goderti l'atmosfera informale di questa piazza dalle scale. Al Korenmarkt troverai una bellissima fonderia di campane che merita sicuramente una visita.
L'attrazione è senza dubbio la friggitoria sulla piazza.
