Nel Medioevo veniva chiamata anche "Reposoir" una piccola cappella , che veniva costruita ad esempio lungo una strada, e che occasionalmente poteva anche fungere da ricovero .
Si tratta quindi di piccole strutture, a volte abbastanza grandi da ospitare almeno una persona . Più recentemente, queste costruzioni sono state anche opera di famiglie benestanti per attirare le grazie del cielo o per riconoscenza verso una di esse. Si parla allora di un "reposoir-fixe". Questi sono qualificati come 'cappella' dalla vox populi, anche se per la maggior parte questi luoghi sono sconsacrati .
