La ragazza (van Afsnee) conosciuta anche come 'La ragazza al traghetto' è un'opera dello scultore Edward Vandaele.
La fragile statua è stata inaugurata alla fine di ottobre 2006 dall'allora assessore alla cultura Sas Van Rouveroij nell'ambito delle piattaforme culturali di Gent.
A metà novembre 2008 la statua in bronzo, alta quasi un metro, è stata rubata.
Edward Vandaele preferisce l' incarnazione della figura umana nelle sue sculture in bronzo. Le figure sono spesso raffigurate con arti allungati e cadono preda della vulnerabilità, dell'impotenza e della minaccia. Sono, per così dire, in uno stato instabile. In ogni momento minacciano di perdere l'equilibrio e spesso sono carichi di tragedie. Secondo Vandaele, tragedia e bellezza non devono necessariamente escludersi a vicenda. Queste sono due proprietà che danno forza ad una composizione.
