Originariamente il cimitero, con il suo muro di mattoni imbiancati, circondava la chiesa , ma nel 1969 una parte di esso fu sgomberata davanti alla chiesa per far posto a parcheggi.
L'aspetto attuale risale in gran parte al 1625 , come si può vedere, tra l'altro, dall'anno inciso sulla facciata occidentale della navata settentrionale.
La parte settentrionale del cimitero è riservata agli ordini monastici di Ostenda, come dimostrano le lapidi commemorative sulla facciata nord della chiesa.
Nella seconda metà del XX secolo, il cimitero fu esteso verso sud e verso est fino a Provinciegeled, accessibile dal vecchio cimitero tramite un cancello in mattoni sormontato da un campanile.
