La battaglia di Ostrovno fu combattuta tra il 25 ed il 26 luglio 1812, tra il corpo francese comandato dal maresciallo di Francia Michel Ney ed il principe Eugenio, con la cavalleria di Murat, e le truppe russe del conte Aleksandr Ivanovič Osterman-Tolstoj e Pyotr Konovnitsyn. I russi respinsero l'attacco delle superiori forze francesi, dando a de Tolly un vantaggio di tre giorni sui francesi. I russi persero circa 3.000 soldati, tra morti e feriti, ed ulteriori 800 furono presi prigionieri. Inoltre, i soldati dello Zar furono costretti ad abbandonare otto cannoni. Le perdite francesi furono più o meno equivalenti.
