Coira è un comune svizzero del Cantone dei Grigioni, di cui è la capitale. Considerato il più antico agglomerato elvetico, viene spesso chiamata «La città più vecchia in Svizzera». Adagiata nell'alta valle del Reno e alla confluenza di importanti strade di valico con il sud delle Alpi, Coira è stata abitata fin dal III millennio a.C. È sede della Pro Grigioni Italiano. Fu a Coira che nel 1780 il birraio grigionese Rageth Mathis fondò il Calanda Bräu, birrificio che ebbe un grande sviluppo con il suo marchio di birra Calanda e che esiste a tutt'oggi, sia pur sotto la proprietà dell'olandese Heineken, che lo acquisì nel 1993.
Il nome di Coira forse deriva dal celtico: kora, koria, che significa "clan", "tribù", oppure dal latino Curia.
