Sargans è un comune svizzero di 6 026 abitanti del Canton San Gallo, nel distretto di Sarganserland del quale è capoluogo.
In epoca romana Sargans era incluso nella provincia romana della Rezia e successivamente, dopo la divisione attuata durante la Tetrarchia, nella Raetia Prima. A testimonianza di quel periodo è stata rinvenuta nel Comune la più importante villa romana del Canton San Gallo. Anche dopo la dissoluzione dell’Impero romano in Occidente nel 480, Sargans continuò a far parte dell’antica area linguistica romancia. Solo tra l’VIII e il XIII secolo, infatti, si affermò definitivamente la lingua alemanna.
