L'ascia di Pratteln è stata trovata sopra Pratteln nel Canton Basilea Campagna. Con un'età di circa 300'000 anni, è considerato l'utensile più antico della Svizzera.
Il 24 febbraio 1974, lo studente Christoph Hauser si imbatté in una grande pietra bruno-giallastra sulla "Hohle Gasse" a sud di Pratteln alla ricerca di fossili sull'argine del sentiero cavo, metà dei quali era ancora bloccata nel terreno. Lo studente si rese conto che non poteva essere della zona e lo portò a casa a causa del suo colore e della sua forma sorprendenti.
Un vicino ha stabilito che si trattava di un'ascia a mano. Nel Museo cantonale di Liestal si è scoperto che Christoph aveva trovato la prima ascia della Svizzera.
