Il castello di Unterhof si trova direttamente sulle rive del Reno nel comune di Diessenhofen in Svizzera e costituisce l'estremità nord-occidentale del centro storico con la sua imponente torre.
Non c'è traccia di chi abbia costruito il castello di Unterhof. Fu menzionato per la prima volta in un documento nel 1185. Fu sede delle Truchsesses di Diessenhofen. «Nobiltà cavalleresca del 13°–15° secolo di Diessenhofen in Turgovia, ramo dei signori di Hettlingen. La sede ancestrale era l'Unterhof a Diessenhofen con il baliato associato di Diessenhofen, il luogo di sepoltura era la chiesa lì. Il primo rappresentante, Heinrich, figlio di Heinrich von Hettlingen, sedette a Diessenhofen dal 1247 come Truchsess della contea di Kyburg. I suoi legami con il monastero di Salem e altre indicazioni indicano un matrimonio con la nobiltà Hegau.
