Frankenau è una città nel distretto di Waldeck-Frankenberg, in Assia settentrionale. Dalla data del 21 febbraio 2019, porta il titolo ufficiale di città del parco nazionale, in riferimento al vicino parco nazionale Kellerwald-Edersee.
Frankenau si trova nel Kellerwald, a sud-ovest del monte Talgang. Si trova sul bordo meridionale del parco nazionale Kellerwald-Edersee, all'origine e nel tratto superiore del corso d'acqua affluente Eder, il Lorfe.
