Wechselburg si trova a circa 12 km a ovest della città di Mittweida e a circa 25 km a nord di Chemnitz. Il comune si trova nella valle della Zwickauer Mulde ai piedi del monte Rochlitzer, alto 353 metri. Non lontano dalla stazione ferroviaria dismessa passa il 51° parallelo. Nel comune stesso, senza frazioni, vivevano nel 2009 un totale di 738 abitanti. Attraverso Wechselburg passa la Via Porphyria e il Cammino di Lutero in Sassonia.
I comuni limitrofi sono Königshain-Wiederau e Seelitz, così come le città di Lunzenau, Penig e Rochlitz. A ovest confina con la città di Geithain, che appartiene al distretto di Lipsia.
