Löbnitz si trova alla Mulde, tra la baia di pianura di Lipsia e la Heide di Dübener. I comuni vicini a Löbnitz sono Delitzsch, Pouch, Bitterfeld, Bad Düben e Badrina.
Nel lato ovest del comune, fino a pochi anni fa, è stata estratta lignite mineraria a cielo aperto a Goitzsche. I fossati di cava, ora allagati, vengono recultivati e trasformati in un paesaggio ricreativo. Così, ora nell'ovest del comune si trova il lago Seelhauser di 6,22 km². L'allagamento è stato accelerato dalla piena secolare nell'agosto 2002, poiché l'argine della Mulde tra Löbnitz e Pouch è crollato e l'acqua alta della Mulde ha fatto traboccare il sito minerario di Goitzsche.
