Seesen è una città nel distretto di Goslar, in Bassa Sassonia, al margine nord-occidentale del Harz, tra Göttingen e Hannover. Fu menzionata per la prima volta in un documento nel 974 e ottenne i diritti di città nel 1428.
Seesen si trova tra l'ondulato Harzvorland e il Harz, il più grande massiccio montuoso dell'alta Germania settentrionale, e si considera anche, grazie alla sua favorevole posizione viaria, la "finestra verso il Harz".
