Poiché mancano fonti scritte sulla storia della costruzione della chiesa, durante l'ultimo restauro è stata effettuata un'analisi dendrologica dei materiali lignei della chiesa. Da questo è emerso che il campanile è la parte più antica di San Castore. Si tratta della parte della chiesa romanica predecessore e risale al 1179. L'analisi del tetto intatto ha rivelato che la chiesa a navata corta e tripartita deve essere stata costruita tra il 1312 e il 1319. Un documento del 1319 menziona come patroni protettori la Santa Vergine Maria, Maria Maddalena e San Castore. Le navate laterali hanno gallerie. Il campanile tardoromanico fa parte dell'edificio della chiesa. Ogni nave ha una chiusura del coro 5/8. Sul lato sud si trovano due atri. L'atrio occidentale, sostenuto da due slanciate colonne, ha una volta a croce, l'atrio orientale ha una volta a stella.
