Fu scelta come uno dei comandi principali dello United States Army Europe dopo la chiusura di Heidelberg, Germany, United States Army in Europe , il 28 settembre 1945, in massima parte per la sua vicinanza con Francoforte sul Meno, dove si trovava il comando dello U.S. Seventh Army.
