Durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale, una villa convertita al lago serviva come scuola di sabotaggio per spie che avrebbero partecipato all'operazione Pastorius fallita. L'operazione Pastorius era un piano di intelligence tedesco fallito per il sabotaggio all'interno degli Stati Uniti durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale. L'operazione fu organizzata nel giugno 1942 e doveva essere diretta contro obiettivi economici strategici americani. L'operazione fu nominata dall'ammiraglio Wilhelm Canaris, capo dell'Abwehr tedesca, in onore di Francis Daniel Pastorius, il leader del primo insediamento organizzato di tedeschi in America.
